Learning Objectives

Digital India is a flagship programme of the Government of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The telecom technologies and infrastructure are key and critical components in realising the Digital India goals. The advent of 5G and its possible use cases will further strengthen it.

5G is the fifth generation of cellular network, bringing new capabilities that will create opportunities for people, businesses and society. 5G will provide new opportunities, enabling us to deliver ground breaking solutions that reach across society. It will enable billions of connected devices gathering and sharing information in real time to reduce road accidents; or life-saving applications with lagfree guaranteed connections; or production lines so predictive that they can prevent interruptions well before they occur.

Some of the possible applications may be Smarter electricity grids for greatly reduced carbon emissions, more connected vehicles sharing data to prevent road collisions, faster deployment of emergency services to accidents, connected sensors that can detect and warn of natural disasters early, drones becoming a key tool to accelerate and support emergency situation response, to mention a few. The application of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) will further enhance user experience in many fields.

With this very short but to-the-point designed Workshop, the officers will appreciate the evolution of 5G technology, its use cases in various sectors of economy a n d its socio-technical impacts. They will be able to apply their knowledge in creating enabling policies for r proliferation of 5G and its Use cases in their respective States.
